Today we are almost constantly bombarded by television, movies and games that center around good and evil. It’s quite common to see gun play in all these areas of entertainment. It’s no surprise, therefore, that the idea of arming yourself with airsoft guns to engage in a friendly war game sounds appealing to more than a few people.

Airsoft guns are essentially duplicates of real guns. If you can name a type of gun, there will be an airsoft version of it. Its ammunition is supplied in the form of plastic pellets. Even so, airsoft guns imitate real ones to surprising detail. You can even feel the recoil or blowback you would get after firing a real gun.

You’d be mistaken to classify airsoft guns as just toys. The pellets they use as bullets are made of plastic and they are too soft and travel to slow to puncture the skin. However, there are still risks as they can lead to eye injuries. While they aren’t dangerous enough to hurt or kill someone, they shouldn’t be considered completely safe, so eye goggles should be worn when using them.

It was in Japan that airsoft guns first went on the market. Naturally, because they were a brand new release, they cost quite a bit of money. However, they became more and more common, so the price came down drastically.

Because of how popular they are, manufacturers began improving them to get better shooting accuracy, shape and performance. Airsoft guns are now extremely similar to real guns, and experts even have trouble telling the difference between them.

Military and Law Enforcement: These guns are being used by government divisions as well. Their resemblance to real guns means they can be used effectively in real life situations, and their performance is good enough to train military personnel.

Film and theatre: The entertainment industry is what spawned the invention of airsoft guns, and now they are actually being used in that very same industry. Movies and plays are using these guns because they can easily pass for real guns. Instead of real ammunition, blanks are put into the guns and then shot just as if they were real ones.

There have been accidents though, such as when Bruce Lee’s son was killed when blanks in an airsoft gun were replaced by real bullets. They are now being used more cautiously on sets.

It’s quite clear that airsoft guns are no longer just toys. They are just as many serious uses as they do playful ones. Either way, safety is the major issue when it comes to using them. You should be aware what caliber gun you are using, and use it in an appropriate setting. Most importantly, always wear safety goggles to keep your eyes safe from pellets.
